Rum, spices, local handicraft - the market in Point-à-Pitre is colorful, it's customers are mainly tourists.
We sometimes appreciate an excursion into the green. The Guadeloupe National Park offers a few lovely hikes. Don't forget to bring your heavy weather gear and rain boots with you.
Persons concerned about the state of their hair dressing will not like the Pointe des Chateaux. Atlantic and the Caribbean Sea meet here. Far away you can see La Désirade. For French sailors, the island marked the arrival in the Antilles when they came over from the main land.
The Route du Rhum race ends in the Marina du Bas de Fort. Plenty of Open 60s, Open 40s, Catamarans and Trimarans are moored here during our stay. Most impressive is the Trimaran Geronimo that occupies the space of five normal cruising yachts just a few meters down the pontoon. The machine has already reached speeds in excess of 40 knots in the surf.
Anahita at anchor in Terre de Haut, les Saintes.
Le Bourg des Saintes. We remember this as one of the best places we visited during our whole trip.
Sunset in Malendure. The Pigeon Islands are set in the Cousteau Marina park, Guadeloupe's diving capital. Three dive shops are competing fiercely for customers.
Deshaies. We had visited this anchorage six years earlier and remembered how many anchors drag as soon as the easterly breeze picks up.
